Mtskheta - Religious Centre of Georgia
Mtskheta (3000 years old) is an ancient, beautiful city, which was the royal capital. Visit Cathedral Svetitskhoveli, founded in the 11th century - a sacred place for every Orthodox Christian. Visit the Monastery Samtavro, where King Mirian and Queen Nana rest, who were the first to recognize Christianity in Georgia. Climb to the monastery Jvari (5th century) with a panoramic view of the ancient capital. According to legend, this temple was erected over the fragrant stump of the cedar, under which St. Nino was praying. After lunch visit Ananuri architectural complex (17th c.), featuring one of the best carvings of Christian art.
